Huma studied law at the picturesque Law School on Kingston Hill at Kingston University and qualified with an LLB (Hons). As an undergraduate she decided to become a barrister as opposed to solicitor so she joined Honourable Society of The Inner Temple, one of the four Inns of Court. The other three are Lincoln’s Inn, Middle Temple and Gray’s Inn.
She then went to study for her Bar Finals at the Inns of Court School of Law (as it was known then). Alumni of the Inns of Court School of Law includes many famous people. Now it has merged with the City Law School. Once she had completed her Bar Finals Huma went on to do her pupillage at Chambers known as 2 Paper Buildings, Chambers of Desmond De Silva QC.
Thereafter she has practised as a barrister with various chambers and eventually set up as a sole practitioner with her own chambers known as St Andrews Chambers. She practices in the areas of Immigration, Human Rights and Family Law. The bulk of her work is in courts England and Wales upon instructions from solicitors.
Huma is registered with the Bar Council as a Public Access Barrister in both her areas of practice. She does some public access work in the area of immigration appeals occasionally but is largely busy with her appearances in court by briefs from solicitors many of whom have briefed her for over ten years. Advocacy is her passion and she enjoys being in court representing clients before judges.
Huma has also had a part time career in Broadcasting. She has presented over a thousand TV shows on mainly two Asian TV channels giving information about the law and raising awareness among people about their rights and responsibilities under the law. Her legal information programmes have been immensely popular.
She has had as guests on her TV show judges and politicians such as Senior Upper Tribunal Judge Richard McKee, Conservative MP Dominic Grieve and the current Mayor of London Sadiq Khan. Keith Best, (Head of the former Immigration Advisory Service) appeared on her shows almost weekly (from 2003 to 2010) to update the viewers about the latest changes in immigration and asylum law.
